10 year old Noel Gleeson from the New Institute Snooker Club in Nenagh in county Tipperary won the www.147academy.com sponsored 2016 Irish Under 12 National Snooker Championship in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club in Carlow. The amount of talent on show on the day was incredible from players as young as 4years old.
In the final Noel beat Ryan McGuirk from Navan 3 frames to 2 in a fantastic match after Ryan led 2-0 but Noel fought back to win the 2016 National title 3 frames to 2. In the semi-finals Ryan McGuirk from Navan beat Leone Crowley from Shooters SC 3 frames to 0 and Noel Gleeson from the New Institute beat Oisin Bateman from the Kilkenny Shed 3-2 in two great matches. High Break The highest break prize went to young Ryan McGuirk who made a fantastic 65 break in the Semi Finals.
The standard was very high throughout the event and it is an honour to have my 147academy linked to the stars of the future in Ireland by developing the game from grassroots level.
Youngest ever players Aoife Gleeson aged 9 became the youngest ever lady to compete in a Irish National Championship while Adam Wynne aged 4 became the youngest ever player to play in an Irish National Snooker Championship so the future is looking good for Irish Snooker. Well done to all the players who entered !!!
