Last week from the 1st – 4th of March I had the pleasure of coaching and training Nico le Clercq from Budapest in Hungary. Nico is 11 years old and is the one of the best eleven year olds i have ever had the pleasure of coaching. Nico travelled with his parents to Ireland to improve his game ahead of the 2022 European Championships.
Star of the future
In Hungary Nico is coached by EBSA coach and International Referee Gergo Almasi. I was so impressed by this young talented left handed player in every session and it was an honour to work with him. I believe he will be one of the top European juniors in the next few years.
4 Day Camp
This 4-day camp was held in my new academy home base, the new SBI Academy of Excellence in Carlow. The young Hungarian was preparing for the upcoming EBSA Championships in Poland in April. I was so impressed with his work rate and passion to learn all the various shots, drills and technical information.

Nico “said it is fantastic to come to Ireland for coaching with PJ. The conditions are world class in the Academy and PJ planned out the camp perfectly. I feel my game really improved so much in the four days as my break building skills, shot selection and long potting improved so much.
Training Camp Structure
Nico was videoed during each session and he brings home all the videos of the action from the sessions to study more by covering all the routines in the four main areas Technique, Mental, Tactical and Scoring.

Practice with Irish Team
Nico practiced with me for four days and on the final day he was invited to practice against the Irish International players who were having an Irish camp to prepare for the EBSA in Poland and the young Hungarian impressed everyone with his game.
Despite only being 11years old, Nico really impressed me with his attitude and commitment when we worked on fine tuning his techniques, break building skills and developing specific routines to work on all areas of his game.
11year old Whiz Kid
During the sessions I worked on fine tuning his fundamentals by working on his Approach, Delivery and Rest Shots. We also talked about my programs on the mental side with the academy booklets on becoming mentally stronger.
Academy Records
Nico achieved many Academy records on my training drills including 103 on UK break, 14 long pink pots, 66 Shovel break, 65 Maguire break, 58 Xmas break, 47 Selby break, 10 Baulk pots and X break 55.

Training Aids
The latest training aids were used in the camp to enhance the sessions like the Master Doctor, Str8aim SA-1 & SA-2, Chris Henry Balls, Academy laser, EBSA Coaching Balls to help to get him on the line of aim and develop a smoother stroke in his delivery
New Training Plan
Nico now begins a new training program over the next year which will be monitored with results and feedback from practice and his tournaments. It is fantastic to have another top European Junior in my 147academy and I will do everything possible to help develop his game over the next few years.
Thank You
My 147academy would like to thank Nico and his parents for coming over and I wish him good luck for the future. I look forward to seeing him play in the EBSA Championships in Poland.
