This week 12th – 16th of May, My 147 Academy travelled to the beautiful city of Wrocław in Poland to hold a Junior Development Camp for the Polish Billiards & Snooker Association. The host Association had organised the camp to improve the young player’s technique and potting skills while giving them the correct training program to improve more. This was the first time I have coached in Poland since being appointed the National Team Trainer. I am really excited about this challenge of developing top class Polish Champions over the next few seasons. Official EBSA Snooker Polish Coach Mateusz Nowak was on hand to assist me and the players during the camp. This training camp was held in Krzysztof Wrobel Bandaclub in Wrocław and the club is one of the most beautiful clubs I have ever coached in.
The players who attended this camp were leading boys Tomasz Marczak, Antoni Kowalski, Jakub Bednarz and leading young lady players Weronika Nowicka, Dalia Alska and Natalia Nowak. The main objective of this camp was to get the players into the correct address position by developing a smoother cue action to strike the cue ball with confidence. My alignment laser helped to correct their line of aim and the 360 training cue helped the players understand how to cue smoother and their potting success improved. 10 year old Antoni Kowalski is a real star of the future in Polish Snooker and is one name everyone should remember as he will be one of the top juniors in the world over the next 5-6 seasons if he keeps up the good training. All the players practiced my academy training routines from 10am – 6pm each day. The new training program will now become part of their daily practice as I feel their cue ball control and concentration needs to be improved. Each player received a DVD of their coaching along with their training program plus a coaching profile highlighting the main areas needed to improve.
The players also played various formats of match-play snooker. This was to help the players identify and understand their weak areas within their game so they can improve in future sessions as the shot selection of attack and defend is crucial if they are to become International level players. It was a pleasure training all the players as their commitment was superb throughout the five days. I would like to thank the players, Mariusz Sikorski Chairman of the Polish Billiards & Snooker Association for inviting to Poland and Krzysztof Wrobel Bandaclub for everything in making it a great success. I look forward to holding my next training camp with the National Men’s Team and another camp with the juniors to monitor their improvement in the near future.
