This week I had the pleasure of coaching talented 20-year-old Velian Dimitrov from Bulgaria for another snooker training camp in the SBI Academy of Excellence in Carlow.
Velian regularly competes in the QSchool, and the QTour. He boosts fantastic wins over Liam Davies, Leone Crowley, Iulian Boiko and Bulcsú Révész at EBSA European Championships in the past. He has also won the Bulgarian Men’s National Snooker Championship.
Velian returned to Ireland to prepare for the 2025 EBSA European Snooker Championships which are being held in Turkey in March. I was again very impressed with his work rate and passion to learn all the different shots, drills and technical information.

Velian improved his overall game so much since the last camp. I was so happy to see him work on improving his cue ball control and break building in this camp. He made many high breaks which included a 147 break on the Spencer Break.
Break Board
- Spencer Break 147, 102, 127
- Vienna Break 104, 105, 136,
- Jungle Break 119, 111, 108
Velian “said it is fantastic to come back to Ireland for another camp with PJ. The SBI academy is fantastic and the table conditions were world class. PJ planned out the camp perfect and I am looking forward to training my new program PJ designed for me.

I worked on fine tuning and developing his playing technique plus I worked on his break building skills and shot selection to improve his scoring. We also focused on his safety and long potting skills with key specific drills.
Velian was videoed during each session and he brings home videos of all the action from the sessions to study covering all the drills and routines .
Training Aids
The latest training aids were used in the camp to enhance the sessions like the Q Line, Master Doctor, Str8aim SA-1 & SA-2, Chris Henry Balls, Academy laser, EBSA Coaching Balls to help to get him on the line of aim and develop a smoother stroke in his delivery and Velian was fast learner in developing all the skills.
Training Plan
Velian now begins his new training program which will be monitored with feedback from practice and his tournaments in helping him to peak at future events. It is fantastic to have this top European player in my 147academy and I will do everything possible to help him develop his game over the next few years.
Thank You
My 147academy would like to thank Velian for coming over and I wish him good luck in the EBSA Championship in Turkey.
