This week I had the pleasure of coaching my first International student in my new home base, the new SBI Academy of Excellence in Carlow when I held a three-day snooker training camp for highly rated 16-year-old Velian Dimitrov from Bulgaria.
Velian travelled to Ireland from the 1st-3rd of February to prepare for the WSF Snooker Championships which are being held in Sheffield later this month. I was very impressed with his work rate and passion to learn all the different shots, drills and technical information.

Velian “said it is fantastic to come over to the new Irish Academy and to have PJ monitor my game. The new academy is incredible and the table conditions are world class. I now feel more confident about my technique after his fine tuning. I have never trained so hard and I really enjoyed the sessions and how PJ planned them out for me. I cannot wait to play in the WSF Championships and then start doing the program he has designed for me.

Velian was videoed during each session and he brings home videos of all the action from the sessions to study covering all the routines in the four main areas Technique, Mental, Tactical and Scoring.

Velian practiced with me for three days and on the final day I arranged a practice match against Irish International Junior Aaron Smith who is also playing in the WSF Championships later in the month. It was great to see them both playing well and it was Bulgaria who came out a 4-1 winner but I am sure they will have a rematch in the near future on the International stage.
Training Aids
The latest training aids were used in the camp to enhance the sessions like the Master Doctor, Str8aim SA-1 & SA-2, Chris Henry Balls, Academy laser, EBSA Coaching Balls to help to get him on the line of aim and develop a smoother stroke in his delivery and Velian was fast learner in developing all the skills.
Training Plan
Velian begins a new training program over the next year which will be monitored with results and feedback from practice and his tournaments in helping him peak at future events. It is fantastic to have another top European Junior in my 147academy and I will do everything possible to help develop his game over the next few years.
Thank You
My 147academy would like to thank Velian for coming over and I wish him good luck in the WSF Championship in February and EBSA Championships in April in Poland.
