On Saturday the 10th of January The DBSL (Dublin Billiards & Snooker Leagues) held a free Under 18 Snooker Coaching day. Young players from all around Dublin, Leinster and Munster attended the training which was held in The D’Arcy Mcgees, Spawell Snooker Club in Templeogue, Dublin. The DBSL held the day to help promote the game in Dublin and allow any player to avail of world class coaching. Irish Professional Snooker Player Fergal O’ Brien and the RIBSA National Coach PJ Nolan were in attendance from 10am – 6pm to give advice and encouragement to the players which was hailed a big success by the DBSL.
Training & Coaching
The boys and girls who attended were put through their paces and I worked on their techniques and they played various mini games which focused on their safety and shot selection under the watchful eye of the World Number 28, Fergal. During the coaching I used my academy alignment laser to help the players get into a good address position and I worked on developing their Stance, Grip, Bridge and Cue Actions to strike the cue ball with a smoother stroke.
Stephen Merrigan Chairman of the DBSL ‘’ said he was delighted with the turnout and the quality of coaching and advice given on the day to the players. He said some players were completely new to the game of snooker and they looked like they really enjoyed it. He hopes now the players will use it to improve their game for the future ‘’. Finally the DBSL would like to thank all the parents, the boys and girls who attended and took part in today’s coaching day. They would also like to thank Fergal O Brien, PJ Nolan and Richard Mc Auley and all his staff for making the day a huge success. The DBSL are already looking forward to doing it all again later in the year so check out the DBSL Facebook and Website for more details.
