Rodney Goggins created Irish snooker history when he made a magical 147 break and won a bronze medal in the 2010 IBSF World Amateur Snooker Championships in Syria. The Wexford man is the first Irishman ever to make a maximum break in the world championship. He is believed to be only the third person in IBSF history to make a 147 break. Rodney eventually was beaten in the semi-finals by the 2003 World Champion Pankaj Advani from India 6 frames to 4 but the Irish number 1 fought back to win the 3rd place playoff to win the bronze medal by beating Thailand number one 4 frames to 2 in a trilling match.
The 147 Break Prize
In making the maximum break, The ( IBSF ) International Billiard & Snooker Federation board presented him with special prize for the break of a Shender Professional snooker table which he played on in the event and a set of match balls which is worth in around 5,000 euro.
The Irish Team
The Republic of Ireland Snooker Association sent four players to the event along with the National Coach PJ Nolan to monitor the players at the event. Rodney thanked PJ for coaching him and preparing him so good in the build up for the championship and in Syria before and after his matches in the event. All four players performed excellent with Rodney and Martin McCrudden from Kildare winning all seven out of seven group matches to move into the knock out rounds of the men’s championship as number 1 seeds.

Martin eventually reached the Q-Final losing 6-5 in one of the matches of the championship and Rodney came 3rd winning the bronze medal and the 147 break.
