The Qatar Snooker national team finished in Bronze position in the Arab snooker championships in Damascus Syria today. Qatar team had already beaten Syria 3-0 and beat Kuwait 3-0, but the qatari team lost 1-2 to Egypt in the semi finals.
In the Semi finals, Qatar captain Mohsen A Aziz got Qatar off to a great start winning his match 5 frames to 1, but Ahmed Saif lost his match 3 frames to 5. and in the deciding match Bashar Hussain went 3-1 up and 4-3 up but the Egyptian fought back to level at 4-4 and won the decider on the final pink to deny Qatar of their first ever final.
National Coach PJ Nolan said afterwards that we were so close in reaching our first ever major snooker final.
The players gave 100% commitment and effort and in sport they are winners and losers, but the Qatar team are improving every year, and it wont be long until they are winning titles, and I was so proud of all my team.
Ali Al Obaidly the 15yr old Qatari reached the Q-Finals in the Under 21 Championship losing to Bahrain 0-3.
