It was an amazing performance from two of my young International 147academy players Shachar Ruberg from Israel and Andreas Ploner from Austria who qualified for the 2014 Sangsom World 6 Red Championships with superb victories over top class opponents.
Andreas Ploner had breaks of 34, 38 and 59 during his 5-1 win over Mitchell Mann in his final qualifying match. Mitchell Man went on to eventually win the European Championship which puts into context the performance from the Austrian.
Israel’s Shachar Ruberg beat my fellow academy player Ireland’s Jason Devaney 5-4 on the final pink to claim the fourth and final EBSA spot for the 6 Red Championships which will be held in Thailand in September.
European Mens Championship
Both players also reached the Q Final of the European Mens Championship with wins over fellow academy players Rodney Goggins and Josh Boileau in the last 16 round the previous night.
Israel’s up and coming star produced his best ever performance to defeat Ireland’s Rodney Goggins 5-3 and reach the quarter finals of the Men’s Championships. Goggins took the first frame but the youngster levelled with a 78 break before Goggins took the lead again with a 66 break. Ruberg then stepped it up as he knocked in a superb 121 clearance and then followed that up with a 107 break, the first back to back century of the championships. Goggins then rallied and clawed a frame back before Ruberg took the 7th frame sealing the victory.
